Welcome to the MHS Library Media Center

We have completely reorganized the entire library. Now you can find books by genre! Whether your favorite is fantasy or romance, dystopian or horror, they are all easier to find now! We have also weeded out older titles students were no longer checking out, and bringing in new for you.

  • Link to Oregon Library Information System

For research at Marshfield High School, students have access to Gale and other resources through the Oregon School Library Information System website. Click on the link above.

Once at OSLIS, students should click on "secondary student," where they will find information about conducting research, links to research and information for citing sources.

For research purposes, click on the middle icon labeled "I Need to Find Information" with the Gale icon. On the next screen, students will get access to multiple different Gale databases as well as other resources. This page of resources also includes video tutorials students can watch to get more information about the sources they have access to from this page.

Scroll down three rows and click on the farthest choice on the right labeled "All Gale Databases" and with icon labeled "Power Search." This will be a more efficient approach as it allows users to search all databases at one time. Users will be prompted to create an account or provide school information. Select the middle box for public schools and type in "Coos Bay School District" when prompted to enter school district name and click select.

At the top of the next screen, users will see a search box where they can type in the topic for which they are looking for more information. Users will be given initial results that will be divided by the type of medium from which the information is derived. Users may wish to take advantage of the many helpful features, including the highlighting of the search term which may speed up user's ability to discern information, citations in various styles so credit can be properly attributed to the source when necessary, sources can be read to user in audio format, etc.

  • OBOB Kids out front in group

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a voluntary statewide program for reading motivation and comprehension sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. The goals are to encourage reading for enjoyment, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension and promote cooperative learning. Statewide there are three divisions in OBOB, including 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. MHS hosts both 6-8 and 9-12 teams since 8th graders are on the campus. In 2019-2020, OBOB will also be introduced to 6th and 7th graders at Sunset and Millicoma in cooperation with MHS 8th graders and to provide more opportunities for students throughout the district.

MHS OBOB teams compete in local battles with schools from North Bend and Coquille from January through March each year and then travel to the Roseburg area in March to compete in the regional tournament. The top two teams in each region advance to the state competition in Salem in April. In 2016-2017 the 9th-12th grade high school team qualified for the state tournament and finished in the top eight teams in the state. In 2018-2019, the high school team finished in the top four in regional competition, missing the state tournament by just one match.

The teams will gear up for the 2019-2020 school year by beginning to read next year’s books, which include the following:
