Community invited to celebrate state champion volleyball team

The community is invited to celebrate the state champion Marshfield volleyball team one more time January 17 as the state championship banner is forever be hung in the main gym at Marshfield High School.

The Marshfield volleyball team became the first volleyball team in state history to win the state title last year with a dominant run through the Class 4A state tournament.

Marshfield entered the tournament as the top seed, overcame a tough contest in the first match and then rolled to easy wins in the semifinals and finals.

In addition to the celebration of the volleyball team, the state champion team will honor the Coos Bay Public Schools Board of Directors during national School Board Appreciation Month.

On January 17, both the boys and girls basketball teams are scheduled to open Sky-Em League play against Junction City.

The boys will tip-off at 5:45 p.m., and at halftime of the boys game, the state championship volleyball team will present autographed photos to each member of the school board.

After the boys game and before the girls game, which is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m., the state championship banner will be hung.

The community is invited to help celebrate Marshfield’s state champions and to cheer on both basketball teams as they open league play.
