On the last day all employees were on campus, Marshfield High School celebrated the eight staff members who will not be returning next year.
Two of the employees are retiring after serving long, decorated careers in public education while six others are leaving for other opportunities.
The MHS staff gathered Thursday for breakfast served by Principal Eli Ashton and Assistant Principal Case McCord before Ashton honored each of the leaving employees.
The retiring employees were:
- Band Director Ken Chaney, who is moving out of state. Chaney said he is likely done teaching, but he does hope to find some work to keep busy.
- English teacher Marcia Stewart-Warren. After more than 30 years of teaching, Stewart-Warren is retiring, but said she might be willing to work as a substitute.
The employees leaving for other opportunities included:
- Math teacher Johelen Whitaker, who is moving out of state.
- Choir accompanist Jeffrey Varga, who is moving to go to college.
- Radio and television instructor Drew Jones, who is leaving to become the men’s soccer coach at SWOCC.
- Secretary Kristi Shaffer, who said she is leaving to be true to herself and is looking for her next opportunity.
- Library Media Assistant Anita Jackson, who is moving out of state but will remain as librarian.
- Mental Health Therapist Nick Elgin
