Welcome to Marshfield High School—home of the Pirates! Located in the heart of Coos Bay, Oregon, Marshfield High School has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, school pride, and community connection. Founded in 1909, Marshfield has served generations of students from the Coos Bay area. Our beautiful campus blends historic charm with modern facilities, including a historic main building with auditorium, main gym (Pirate Palace), and a newer math and science building (Pirate Hall). Steeped in tradition, Marshfield is proud of its legacy while embracing innovation and growth to meet the needs of today’s learners.  Our alumni include winners of Grammy and Tony awards, Olympians, professional athletes, doctors who have made worldwide contributions developing products in the field of medicine, and artists with major works throughout the world

Marshfield High School is the largest comprehensive public high school on the Oregon Coast serving approximately 800 students in grades 9–12. Our student body reflects the diversity and spirit of our coastal community. We are committed to equity and inclusion, and we strive to ensure that each student is known by name, strength, and need.

Marshfield offers a wide range of academic programs designed to prepare students for success in college, career, and life. Highlights include:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) courses (currently 9) and dual credit courses (currently 26) through partnerships with local community colleges, and the opportunity for expanded options courses at our local community college.

  • The AVID Elective course is a structured, college-prep course focused on building study skills, academic support, and real-world readiness, while the schoolwide AVID initiatives integrate these strategies across all classrooms to foster a college and career readiness culture and ensures that every student has the tools for success.
  • A strong Career & Technical Education (CTE) program including Culinary Arts, Manufacturing/Welding, Construction, Computer Science, and Broadcast Communications

  • A new Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard

  • Special Education and English Language Development support services

  • Dedicated staff who personalize instruction and support student growth through our Pirate AdvisoryAfter School Tutoring, and Student Access Time programs.

Marshfield is proud to offer a vibrant extracurricular experience that builds leadership, creativity, and community. Students can get involved in:

  • Athletics: Competing in the OSAA 4A classification with all sanction athletics and activities offered as well as the emerging sport of Boys Volleyball, Marshfield teams consistently excel across multiple sports.

  • Performing and Visual Arts: Award-winning journalism, yearbook, band, choir, and drama programs.

  • Clubs and Organizations: National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Robotics, Speech & Debate, Indoor Archery, OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books), Esports, Knowledge Bowl, Latin X, Black Student Union, Pirates for Christ, GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), Native Club, and many others.
